Surely salt doesn't still play such an important role in everything. With advancements in...pretty much everything, I'd doubt salt is still as vital as it was back then. (Obviously, we need it to survive, but I'm talking about the economy!)
Perhaps oil is the next salt? It is the only resource I can think of that is as important as salt was back in it's day. I feel like I'm rambling--pardon my fail.

Pretty sure everyone needs to see this picture once in their life.

Wow. You sound so intelligent in this blog. And it may sound like I'm being sarcastic, since I usually am, but I promise I'm not. I think oil is the new salt too, but I would NEVER put it on my salad, or in my soy sauce. That's not true, i would for a dollar. I'd do anything for a dollar =).
Dude I love the picture Haha. I agree with jess, you do sound really smart in this blog but you always do haha. I like the connection between salt and oil very well played.

Salt is still used in today's world for industrial purposes. Storage of nuclear waste depends highly upon salt, which absorbs liquid and entraps fluid should it ever leak out. We also use salt for our roads, to make ice cream, to process metals, etc. If you were to read later into the book you would see why.
You mention oil being the next salt, which is interesting since many other blogs seem to have drawn the same comparisson. Interesting observation to be sure.
Picture is off topic. Your entry is much shorter than previous. This will reflect in your score.
